Do you have private medical insurance? Or perhaps receive medical insurance through your job? If so, you may be able to use it to cover appointments and treatments with us.

We are an independent private hospital that takes insurance with direct settlement processes with all of the UK's medical insurance companies. So there is no need to worry about billing or payment, allowing you to focus on what’s most important - getting better.

When you want. Who you want.

Private medical insurance allows you to be treated at the time of your choice and by the Consultant of your choice. You just need to check with your insurance company that the Consultant you’ve chosen is “fee assured.” However, you also have the option to pay the excess for non-fee-assured consultants.

How to access private medical treatment

Get a GP Referral

You will need a referral from your GP or one of our private GPs. Tell them you have private medical insurance and wish to see one of our Consultants. This is the first step in accessing healthcare at New Victoria Hospital through private medical insurance.

Contact Your Insurer

Once you have your GP referral, you will then need to contact your insurance provider to ensure that your treatment will be covered. They will confirm whether your policy covers the proposed treatment and will provide you with an authorisation number, which you will need to provide prior to your health insurance hospital visit with us.

Schedule Your Consultation and Treatment

After receiving authorisation, our Patient Services Team will schedule a medical insurance hospital appointment with your chosen consultant. We strive to provide appointments at times convenient for you, offering a service that is as smooth and stress-free process as possible.

Double-check your cover

Before you visit us, please confirm with your insurers that your medical treatment is covered. It is also a good idea to keep them informed throughout your treatment as some policies may restrict the level of your cover. Also please check the terms and conditions of your policy thoroughly.

We take care of the rest

Once your appointment has been made, you can leave the rest to us. We will liaise with your insurance provider throughout your treatment. Our reservations team handles all the necessary paperwork and our finance team will invoice your insurance provider directly, so you can focus on your recovery. Should any issues arise, we’re here to assist.

Other Ways to Pay for Your Treatment

At New Victoria Hospital, we know that flexibility is key, which is why we offer fully inclusive self-payment options for patients without private health insurance.

With our Fixed Price Self Pay Packages, the process is simple and transparent. It’s a convenient way to get the care you need without going through a medical insurance provider. This option is ideal for patients who need access to treatment not covered by insurance.

For more information on our self-pay options and pricing, please visit the Self-Pay and Payments and Prices pages on our website.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Do I need a GP referral to quality for treatment?

Yes. Your insurance provider will require a GP referral to authorise your treatment. This can either be with your own NHS GP or one of our private GPs here at New Victoria Hospital.

What should I do if my insurance doesn’t cover my treatment?

If your insurance policy doesn’t cover a particular treatment, you can explore our other payment options, such as our Self-Pay Packages.

What treatments are covered by my insurance?

Coverage depends on your insurance policy. It’s best to contact your provider directly to understand which treatments and services are included in your plan.

How does billing work with my insurance?

Once your treatment has been authorised by your insurer, we handle the invoicing directly with them. As a Hospital that takes insurance, you will only be billed directly for any excesses, deductibles, or treatments not covered under your policy. However, we will always check with your insurer that your treatment is going to be covered, so you won’t get any surprises.

What if I am covered under a work scheme?

Many of our patients are covered by their employer's private medical insurance scheme. In this case, you may need to contact your Human Resources or Personnel department.
