Professor Mohamed A. Imam MD, MSc, D. SportMed, ELP (Oxon), PhD, FRCS (Tr & Orth) is a highly skilled fellowship-trained Orthopaedic Surgeon with distinguished expertise in upper limb surgery, sports injuries, and complex trauma. Committed to delivering advanced, personalised treatments, he has established himself as one of the leaders in his field.

Professor Imam has received numerous prestigious awards and fellowships from globally respected organisations, including EFORT, the NHS Academy, the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (AAOS), the Arthroscopy Association of North America (AANA), and ISAKOS. As a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of England, he earned a PhD in rotator cuff tendon healing and shoulder biomechanics, complemented by patents in his specialisation. His work leverages technology to enhance patient outcomes, safety, and global health equity. He is a board or committee member of several national and international organisations, including the British Elbow and Shoulder Society, ISAKOS, SICOT, OrthoGlobe, and the Royal College of Surgeons. He has been a member of many working groups writing national and internal guidelines.

Professor Imam’s advanced training includes prestigious fellowships in the UK at the Wrightington Upper Limb Unit, the Royal Orthopaedic Hospital, and the Rowley Bristow Orthopaedic Unit, where he currently serves as a consultant and trauma lead. He also completed a Complex Trauma Fellowship at Oxford University Hospitals and trained under Professor Christian Gerber at the renowned Der Balgrist University Orthopaedic Centre in Zurich, Switzerland. His international training includes placements at the Mayo Clinic, The Steadman Clinic, and Stanford University.

Specialising in upper limb procedures, Professor Imam performs tendon repairs, reconstructions, joint preservation and replacements, and cartilage regeneration using cutting-edge techniques, including computer navigation and bespoke shape-matched joint replacements. He manages over 500 procedures across his NHS and private practices annually, maintaining a patient-focused ethos rooted in the latest evidence-based surgical and non-operative care approaches.

In academia, Professor Imam is an accomplished researcher at the University of East London with over 120 peer-reviewed publications, 12 textbook chapters, and four authored books. He serves as chief investigator for numerous clinical trials, exploring areas such as stem cell applications, cartilage, tendon repair, minimally invasive fracture fixation, and advanced arthroscopic techniques.

Professor Imam is also at the forefront of medical innovation through the Smart Health Centre in London, utilising machine learning, augmented reality, and artificial intelligence to improve surgical and clinical outcomes. As the TheArmDoc platform's creator and the OrthoGlobe Initiative's founder, he is dedicated to patient education and fostering global collaboration in orthopaedics.
